Just finished a great Memorial Day weekend with Marissa and friends out in Vegas. This shot is from the top of Calico Tanks, the terminus of a moderate hike and rock scramble in Red Rock Canyon. Behind us is the Strip (off to the upper left.) Considering it was almost June, the late morning, three hour hike was surprisingly comfortable.
Red Rock is only 30 minutes from the Strip and perfect for anyone visiting Vegas and looking for a morning away from the gawking crowds and faux landmarks.

Today’s show was the company’s third, featuring the Fall / Winter 2010 line. I’ve posted a few snapshots on Flickr from the event, and a slideshow below.
The snapshots are from my Panasonic GF-1, shooting without flash (I had one but decided it was just blowing out the ambient too much.) It was kind of dark at my end of the runway - I was shooting ISO 400, F3.2, 1/100 and getting some motion blur. Overall pretty happy with the camera’s performance but maybe next time I’d try a slightly wider aperture if it got me to 1/150 or 1/200.
“The GF1 is a near perfect travel camera.”
Craig Mod’s fantastic travelogue / photo-essay / camera review. Earlier this year I wrote why I suspect I’m not going to travel with an SLR any more; getting this camera would just seal the deal.
One of my photos from a trip to Vegas earlier this year has been featured by Slate in their slideshow Dubai to All That: A gallery of the trophy assets and projects that sank Dubai’s ship. It’s number 2, MGM Mirage City Center — I’m happy to get a credit, though a link would have been nice.
Taken at Wednesday night’s celebration. More pictures on Flickr.
Sailing - but in a feather cocktail gown from the Allison Parris collection.
From my trip to Oregon a few weeks ago - this one was left forgotten in the camera in the middle of all the chaos of moving to LA.
As of last Saturday, I’ve moved to LA to take on a new job with IMDB, a subdivision of Amazon.com. I just realized that if you look at my blog, it still looks like I’m in Oregon on vacation - had to do something to fix that.
LA is goodso far - I’m still living out of my bags and driving a rental car. Hopefully that will change over the next few weeks.
(Oh… and In-N-Out was okay. But I found Tender Greens, which I prefer.)
